Originally inspired by a Mende figure of a woman carved in wood in the British Museum (Museum of Mankind at the time). She has a geometric, 3 tier neck, which gives the poise of the head great dignity and grace. I developed the idea in an asymmetric way, using simple, geometric curves to define the head and facial features and unifying the details with one curved line that moves, in 3D, asymmetrically from the chin, over the top of the head and back to the chin.
